Each is set in its own unique location. Bathampton Manor, accommodating 21 residents, is set in large grounds in the pretty village of Bathampton. Henrietta House accommodates 19 residents and is close to the heart of the City and local parks and gardens. Greystones, our largest home with 26 residents is in a quiet residential area, but close to the popular shopping area of Bear Flat. It is well served by nearby public transport.

Residents are initially admitted to our Homes’ for a month’s trial a “getting to know you” trial period. From time to time holiday breaks can be offered. Often our holiday guests eventually decide to make their Home with us. Our Homes are popular with carers as it gives them the opportunity to have a holiday break themselves. We offer the same high standards to those on holiday as we give to our permanent residents.

The main concern of our Homes is the residents quality of life. Our philosophy is to look after the residents in a caring and sympathetic way, so that their privacy and dignity are respected, and to encourage active independence where possible.

Residents care needs are assessed and individual Care Plans are put in place and reviewed regularly. Residents are appointed their own key worker, who will help settle in a new resident and will continue to be responsible for ensuring that personal and emotional needs are met. We aim to care for residents to the end of their lives providing the Regulations relating to Residential Care Homes permit. The knowledge of this security is to give the resident peace of mind and be the foundation of a good relationship with the Home.

In 1947 a group of local volunteers recognised the need in Bath for a retirement home that could provide high quality accommodation at an affordable cost for Bath's "elderly in need". Initially, under the umbrella of Bath Council for Social Service, the group purchased Bathampton Manor. Funds were raised by ways of Covenants, donations, grants and loans. Bathampton Manor's success led to the purchase of its second Home, Greystones, which was initially viewed as a one-year experiment to see whether it could meet the needs of the more frail elderly. It proved so successful the building was extended to accommodate more residents. In 1976 Henrietta House, then a hotel, was purchased and converted. Over the years the Company became independent of Bath Council for Social Service and in 1991 took on the Title, Bath Centre for Voluntary Service Homes Ltd., but for simplicity trades as BCVS Homes.

Over half a Century later BCVS Homes is still thriving, all three Homes providing care for both the more active and the frail elderly. Overall the Company provides employment (full & part time) to around 90 people. They are all experienced and dedicated to the elderly people they care for.

The registered office is based on the top floor of Greystones where the Committee of Management meets and is also the base for the "Head Office" administration team. The Management of the Company responsible for policy decisions is still provided by a dedicated group of voluntary members, thus keeping management costs to a minimum. Their work enables BCVS Homes, as a non-profit making organisation, to plough "profits" back into the company to maintain its high standards for the benefit of the residents.

Each Home has a group of "Friends", voluntary members who fund raise and join in the social activities of the residents.

There is a NO SMOKING Policy for the benefit of the majority of the residents and staff.
